Title: The effect of salt concentration and fermentation time on pH value, total acidity and microbial characteristic of pickled ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.)
Authors: Susilowati, S; Laia, S; Purnomo, H
Abstract: Spontaneous fermentation of ginger are very popular in China and Japan and the product are
known as pickled ginger, in Indonesia its popularity is still limited in certain society, but more
increasing with the present of more japanese cuisine restaurants especially in metropolitan
cities. Hence a study on the effect of salt concentration and fermentation time on pH value, total
acidity number and microbial characteristic of pickled ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) was
conducted. Completely Randomized Design was used in this study with two factors namely
salt (NaCl) concentrations (2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 % w/w) and fermentation time : 5 and 10 days, and
this experiment was replicated three times, while the parameters observed were pH value, total
acidity , Lactic Acid Bacteria total counts and characterisation and identification of lactic acid
bacteria of selected pickled ginger sample using index de Garmo was carried out by 16SrRNA
gene sequencing analysis. The selected sample was the one prepared using 2.5% w/w salt
and 5 days fermentation at 26o

C with pH value of 3.40, total acidity 0.92% and lactic Acid

bacteria total counts of 7.56 x 106

CFU/ml. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis and
similarity by Neighbor Joining (NJ) method with phylogenic tree construction, the lactic acid
bacteria of selected pickled ginger identified were Lactobacillus plantarum strain BM4 and
Lactobacillus plantarum LOCK 0991 with similarity of 86% .

LABOR UNION AND THE COMPANY PERFORMANCE: INDUSTRIAL CONFLICT

Title: LABOR UNION AND THE COMPANY PERFORMANCE: INDUSTRIAL CONFLICT
Authors: Ratih, Dewi; Yunus, Achmad
Abstract: Today many conflicts arise that lead to destructive conditions concerning industrial relations, including conflict between the
workers as a key element of the production and the entrepreneur as the owner of capital. Many workers demands against their
rights to entrepreneurs who cannot be packed in containers appropriate mediation so that not infrequently lead to greater
conflict. Frame of mind in this study based on the fact that the management of conflicts in industrial relations requires the
involvement of all stakeholders in the organization. Support regulations and policies are also strongly demanded that the conflict
can be managed properly in order to achieve a favorable climate objective so that employees can work optimally in order to
achieve organizational goals through the organization’s culture. Organizational culture is very important role in supporting the
creation of an effective organization. There are certain characteristics as forming an organizational culture that is used in this
research is focused on the culture of quality. This study aims to map the factors related to conflict management in particular
industrial worker organization’s involvement in shaping the culture of the organization in conflict management. This study uses
a qualitative research design with a case study approach where the analysis of this research is done inductively. The design of
this study refers to the model cycle of Kemmis and M. Taggart (1998) with four stages, namely: 1) preparation, 2) the
implementation phase, 3) the stage of monitoring, and 4) the stage of reflection. The role of labor union organizations to be very
important in determining management policies. The union becomes a container in delivering the aspirations of employees that
are part contribution to the company’s employees. Union organization is able to manage conflict are expected to be part of the
motor of the company’s progress. Proven in some respects in accordance with the results of the research, the union was able to
resolve conflicts without weakening partly conflicting parties. In running the organization, cultivate union members to work
together and form solidarity among its members. Behaviors and habits that is expected to shape the culture of the organization
mature and become a strong foundation for the progress of the company.

Equity market timing and capital structure: evidence on post-IPO firms in Indonesia

Title: Equity market timing and capital structure: evidence on post-IPO firms in Indonesia
Authors: Ratih, Dewi
Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze and evaluate the impacts of equity market timing on corporate
capital structure policies in Indonesia by apply Baker and Wurgler’s analytical approach to firms in Indonesia to
see, first, if that approach applies to Indonesian firms and, second, if it can be generalized to other emerging markets.
Design/methodology/approach – This study will focus on capital structure policies based on Market
Timing Theory in developing countries, which uses the panel data of companies listed in Indonesian Stock
Exchange after IPO. The companies used as research object are 70 firms in the non-financial/non-banking
sector with the observation period of 2000–2015. The period of measurement is five years after IPO. Using a
past market value in which equity market timing is measured in two-time measurements, i.e. yearly timing
and long-term timing to prove its persistence.
Findings – Consistent with equity market timing theory, the results suggest that firms tend to issue equities
when their market valuations are relatively higher than their book values and their past market values are
high. As a consequence, the firms become underleveraged or have their debts reduced in the short run. The
results of long-term measurement on equity market timing do not appear to affect the firms’ capital structure
decisions due to the firms’ relatively quick adjustments of optimal capital structures. The conclusion is that
equity market timing is an important element in the short run but not in the long run.
Research limitations/implications – The results of this study describe how firms in Indonesia take
advantage of temporary market share fluctuations through equity market timing in their capital structure
policies before ultimately making adjustments to the directions they are targeting.
Practical implications – The use of equity market timing is more aimed at reducing the debt ratio and
avoiding unfavorable conditions in the debt market, as well as taking advantage of the capital gains derived
from the differences in their stock prices. This study also has practical implications on investment policies
that need to consider the adaptation factor of the industrial environment when it comes to making capital
structure decisions, including how the entity must take policy when uncertain economic conditions.
Social implications – Through the research behavior of capital structure more in-depth decision is
expected to provide an overview for investors widely in determining investment policy. Thus, the investment
strategy is more planned and can also anticipate unexpected conditions.
Originality/value – This research is the first study to analyze and to evaluate the impacts of equity market
timing on corporate capital structure policies on post-IPO firms in Indonesia. This research is an empirical

study that investigates the relevance of equity market timing considerations in the determination of debt-
equity choices in the capital structure, included in the conditions of the global financial crisis.

Contraction Coefficient (Cc) Characteristic for Flow Under Sluice Gate using Trapezoid Baffle Block and Sill

Title: Contraction Coefficient (Cc) Characteristic for Flow Under Sluice Gate using Trapezoid Baffle Block and Sill
Authors: Sunik
Abstract: Laboratory experiment was development to know contraction coefficient (Cc) characteristic for the flow
under sluice gate while it operated with variation discharge and open gate using trapezoid baffle block with
sill. Prototype model as horizontal channel used sluice gate installed on it made from fiberglass. Dimension of
horizontal fiberglass channel: length (L) = 9 m, width (B) = 50 cm; sluice gate dimension, height (h) = 80 cm,
thick (t) = 1 cm, width (b) = 50 cm. Variation of discharge (Q) and open gate (a = 1,2,3,4 cm) make the flow rise
the contraction coefficient (Cc). Models of baffle block as trapezoid (Bb = 2.8 cm) installed as three row, specified
location 25 cm after sluice gate using end sill (code T4-A, 10 running; code T4-B, 10 running; T4-C, 10 running;
T4-D, 10 running). The height of flow (h) and velocity (v) were measured during each running test then Froude
number and contraction coefficient (Cc) were analyzed. The result showed that trapezoid baffle block model
T4-A (28 cm x 28 cm x 28 cm) (Fr = 0.12 - 0.50) gives the better performance modelling of Cc in term of the
initial Froude number with R2

= 0.9186, Ls1, Ls2 = 32 mm, L2 = 100 cm. It was concluded that using three rows

configuration of trapezoid baffle block with T4-A model gave better model than T4-B, T4-C, T4-D.
